Today is transfer deadline day in Ghana, with clubs racing to finalize deals to strengthen their squads.
The Ghana Premier League has already seen notable signings, including Asante Kotoko’s acquisition of Kwame Poku, who has hit the ground running.
One of the most talked-about transfer speculations was Mubarak Wakaso’s potential move to Hearts of Oak.
Media reports suggested the former Ashantigold midfielder was set to join the Accra-based club.
Wakaso, 34, is renowned for his tenacity, exceptional passing, and leadership on the pitch.
Since leaving Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024, he has been without a club.
With a storied career that includes stints at Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic, and Deportivo Alaves, his addition was expected to bring much-needed experience and quality to Hearts of Oak.
However, sources revealed to 3Sports that the deal collapsed after initial talks, facilitated by intermediaries, failed to progress further.
Hearts of Oak have a history of bringing in marquee names, including Sulley Muntari and Samuel Inkoom.
Wakaso, who has earned 70 caps for the Black Stars, is reportedly prioritizing a move abroad over staying in Ghana.
For now, the experienced midfielder remains on the hunt for his next club.
