Ghanaian striker Jerry Afriyie has transferred from lower-tier side Thoughts FC to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiya.
The 20-year-old has signed a contract extending to 2028 but will first join Spanish third-tier side CD Lugo on loan for the remainder of the current season.
Afriyie’s impressive performances over the past year have solidified his status as a top prospect.
He played a key role in Ghana’s gold medal victory at the African Games, scoring the winning goal in the final against Uganda.
He was also named Best Player at the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo, where Ghana finished as runners-up; he also won the Golden Boot with five goals in five matches.
Afriyie became the first player from Ghana’s third-tier league to earn a call-up to the senior national team in November 2024 for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He marked his debut with a goal against Niger, despite Ghana’s 2-1 loss.
Despite attracting interest from various clubs, Afriyie chose to sign with Al Qadsiya, currently third in the Saudi Professional League.
The loan to CD Lugo is intended to provide him with valuable international experience before he joins Al Qadsiya next season.
