Thomas Kofi Alonsi removed as Director-General of Ghana Maritime Authority

The Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Mr. Thomas Kofi Alonsi, has been relieved of his position.

Mr. Alonsi, who was appointed to the role in March 2019, is a solicitor with over 16 years of experience in both the private and public sectors.

Before his tenure at the Ghana Maritime Authority, he practiced law at Sory@Law in Accra and served briefly as a research officer with the National Commission for Civic Education.

A barrister-at-law, Mr. Alonsi holds a Dip. Ed/BA (Hons) in History and pursued an M.Phil in History at the University of Cape Coast before shifting to legal studies at the Ghana School of Law, where he was called to the Bar in 2003.

Mr. Alonsi has also held various political and administrative roles, including District Chief Executive of Builsa District Assembly and Regional Campaign Coordinator for the NPP in the Upper East Region.

He is a native of Wiaga in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

The reason for his removal has not been officially disclosed.
