Asante Kotoko have been rewarded with a place on the Ghana Premier League summit following their impressive form, while Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw against Holy Stars as the second round of the Ghana Premier League took flight.
Kotoko’s skipper Justice Blay scored the all-important goal from the spot to deliver the win for the home side against a crestfallen Karela United.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak’s players swamped goalkeeper Benjamin Asare after his impressive series of saves ensured the Phobians picked a point against Holy Stars, leaving them in sixth place.
In Accra, Legon Cities picked up a rare win, beating title chasing Bibiani GoldStars 1-0, a result which leaves the Golden Boys a point behind Kotoko.
Elsewhere, Heart of Lions returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Aduana FC, keeping their title aspirations alive.
Red-hot Bechem United eased their way past Nations FC with a 2-0 win, giving them an outside shot at the title.
Berekum Chelsea’s Emmanuel Sarpong’s first half strike was enough to topple Vision FC in Berekum.
Defending champions Samartex played out a 1-1 stalemate in Samreboi with relegation threatened Dreams FC.
Young Apostles push to maintain their Premier League status gained momentum as a slender 1-0 win over Nsoatreman moved the Wenchi-based club to 21 points.
Accra Lions got the weekend up and running with a 1-0 win over Medeama on Saturday, moving them temporarily out of the drop zone.
The Accra based side are, however, back in the relegation zone after Sunday’s games and will be hoping for a favorable finish.
