West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus has acknowledged that his start to the season has been somewhat underwhelming, but the Ghanaian international is determined to turn things around.
Despite finding the back of the net three times and providing one assist in the Premier League, Kudus feels he has more to offer, particularly under the tutelage of new Head Coach Graham Potter.
The 24-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup, often being substituted before the 70-minute mark. However, Kudus is not one to shy away from a challenge, and he’s committed to raising the bar and meeting his own lofty expectations.
“I set higher standards for myself. I’m not there yet, but we keep working because, individually and as a team, we all know the reality of the situation we are in. I want to get a higher number of goals and assist and, most importantly get more points for the team” Kudus said in an interview on the club’s website.
Despite experiencing an inconsistent spell in an otherwise tumultuous season for West Ham, Kudus also reflected on his adaptability, highlighting the differences between playing as a central striker and on the wing.
“It’s a whole different feeling playing in the centre and then being out wide. My aim is to analyze both situations and help the team in the best possible way.”
This flexibility will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for West Ham as they navigate the ups and downs of the Premier League.
With a crucial clash against Aston Villa looming on Sunday, Kudus will be looking to make a more significant impact on the pitch. He’s determined to hit the ground running and make amends for his slow start to the season. As he strives for consistency and excellence, the Ghanaian international will undoubtedly be a player to watch in the weeks and months to come.
