A significant number of delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remain optimistic about unity within the party following its presidential primary held last Saturday, January 31.
The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, who disclosed this in an interview on Accra-based JoyFM, said data obtained from recent polls shows that about 88 percent of NPP delegates are hopeful that the party will remain more united after the flagbearer contest.
He said, “Polling data shows that about 88% of NPP delegates are hopeful that there will be unity in the party, that is, the grassroots. The problem is not the grassroots. The problem will be at the top level of the campaign. Once they can reconcile them, I don’t think there will be a problem at the bottom.”
According to him, findings from the data shows a strong desire among supporters expecting to see the leaders work together in the lead up to the 2028 elections, adding that delegates of the party are generally ready to support the party’s flagbearer, provided the leadership sets the right tone and demonstrates genuine efforts at reconciliation.
Mr. Dankwah further advised the NPP to unite its members at the national level in order to prevent internal divisions which has the potential to affect its chances as it prepares to contest the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in the 2028 general election.
“For where the NPP is now, they don’t need any division in their ranks to really face the NDC going forward. I believe, and I sincerely hope that all camps would do that. But what you get to feel is that people around Ken’s team are a lot more bitter,” he added.
