Centre celebrates Global Hand-wash Day
Bisease (C/R), Oct. 16, GNA - The First Anglican Child Development Centre (FACDC) at Ajumako-Bisease on Monday joined millions of people worldwide to celebrate the “Global Hand-washing Day – October 15”.
The 5th Global Hand-washing Day celebration is on the theme; “Help more Children Reach Their 5th Birthday” is aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the importance of hand washing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases.
A statement to mark the occasion showed that 6.9 million children under-five years die each year as a result of complications – pneumonia, diarrhoea, cholera and respiratory infections and that regular hand wash could easily reverse the trend. Practical demonstration took place at the Centre.
Addressing the participants Mr Evans Owusu Berning of the Breman Asikuma Catholic Hospital advised members on the importance and advantages of hand washing and described the process as hygienic, easy and affordable way of preventing diseases, worms and infections.
The celebration, There was a procession through the principal streets of the town with placards some of which read; “Wash your hands with soap and water, before and after eating”, “Wash your hands after visiting the toilet”, “Prevent eye infection”, and “Clean hands save lives”.
The Chairman for the occasion, Rev Fr Myles Abaidoo, the Parish Priest of the St Luke’s Anglican Church, advised all present to accept, embrace and practice hand washing.
