GFA to encourage clubs to normalise tight security at match venues
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is taking steps to enhance security at match venues, following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong.DCOP Lydia Donkor, chairperson of the GFA's security committee, has pledged to standardise security measures, including the introduction of stewards to complement police efforts.We are looking into all of these things and hopefully going forward, things are going to be more standardized, DCOP Donkor said.In our football space, we do not have stewards being a standard form of security, adding to what the Police is doing. We are looking at that, encouraging clubs and all of the people involved in football to start formalizing and looking at the issue of stewards so that those numbers complement with what the police provide.The move comes after the fatal incident led to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League, with Asante Kotoko withdrawing from the competition until justice is served. Six arrests have been made, and the GFA is working to prevent future incidents.
