Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso says his team has been reminded of the unforgiving nature of continental football as they prepare to host Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Ghanaian champions, who are making their debut in Africa’s elite club competition, are playing their home game in Accra as Dun’s Park in Bibiani doesn’t meet CAF standards.
Manso, who led GoldStars to a historic Ghana Premier League title last season, believes the psychological readiness of his squad will be just as crucial as their tactical approach.
“We have to let them know that where they are going is not for young guys. Once you’ve been able to get to that place, it means you’re also a very good side. So we need to make sure we also go into the game with a lot of confidence,” he told Joy Sports.
Saturday’s clash represents GoldStars’ sternest test yet on the continental stage.
