Fresh off guiding Medeama SC to a dominant 4â0 victory over Vision FC on Friday evening, head coach Anyars Ibrahim Tanko is set to celebrate an even more personal milestone: his marriage to long-time sweetheart Ruweida Abubakar.
The wedding will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Tema, just 24 hours after Medeama’s emphatic win at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium lifted them three points clear at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Players, technical staff and club officials are expected to travel to Tema to support their gaffer on his special day. A festive reception is planned for Sunday, September 21, in Kumasi’s Saabon Zongo Nzi.
Tanko, a former Ghana international, has impressed since taking charge in Tarkwa, shaping Medeama into an early-season powerhouse. Friday’s resounding victory extended their perfect start to the 2025/26 campaign, with six goals scored and none conceded in their first two matches.
Despite the joyous occasion, Tanko’s honeymoon will be brief. He is scheduled to rejoin the team quickly as they prepare for a tough away fixture against Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale next week, a crucial match as Medeama aim to maintain their early lead in the title race.
The upbeat atmosphere around the club reflects not only their strong start on the pitch but also growing off-field momentum.
Medeama recently secured a significant sponsorship agreement with mining giants AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem, strengthening the club’s financial foundation and further fueling their ambitions for the season.
With confidence high and celebrations underway, Tanko’s wedding weekend adds a personal highlight to what is shaping up to be a remarkable chapter for both the coach and his high-flying Medeama side.
