Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo has described 2025 as âone of the best years’ of his professional career, marked by a historic promotion with Spanish side Real Oviedo and a successful international debut.
In a New Year's Day message to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the 28-year-old reflected on a transformative 12 months that saw him rise from relative obscurity to a key figure in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Sibo played a pivotal role for Real Oviedo, helping the club secure a return to La Liga last June after a 24-year absence from Spain’s elite division. His consistent performances in Europe eventually earned him a maiden call-up to the national team under coach Otto Addo.
He made his debut in a crucial 1-0 victory over Mali in September 2025, delivering a composed performance that cemented his place in the squad as Ghana finished top of Group I to secure World Cup qualification.
”This year has been one of the best years of my career. Helping my club reach elite football after 24 years and making my debut for the national team are moments I will never forget,” Sibo stated. “The love and support you gave me during the World Cup qualifying games was amazing.”
Looking ahead to the 2026 tournament in North America, Sibo expressed confidence in the team's unity and preparation.
"We are preparing very hard and believe we can put Ghana on the global map next year," he added, urging fans to keep the Black Stars in their prayers as they aim for a historic run.
