Samuel Bartels, a legal practitioner, has cautioned that the prolonged delay in prosecuting those responsible for the murder of Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley is sending confusing signals and risks discouraging supporters from attending Ghana Premier League matches.
February 2, 2026, marked one year since Pooley was stabbed to death in Nsoatre during a league match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unresolved in court, with the perpetrator yet to be brought to justice.

Kotoko have consistently maintained that there has been no serious progress in efforts to prosecute those involved in the incident.
Speaking in an interview with JoySports, Bartels said the lack of accountability could have lasting consequences for the game. He noted that the situation creates uncertainty and fear among supporters, particularly families.
“You do not want the Pooley case to become the reference point for parents telling their children not to go to the stadium because there was no justice,” he said, adding that the slow pace of the case is troubling.
Bartels called on the football fraternity to intensify pressure for justice, stressing that the matter has not advanced as it should.
