The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strengthened the Black Stars’ technical team with the appointment of five experienced professionals as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The additions are intended to deepen expertise across coaching, analysis, medical care, and performance, as Ghana gears up for the tournament to be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
French coach Alain Ravera has been appointed assistant coach, bringing international experience from roles with the Guinea national team and AS Monaco. He will be joined by Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who combines his new role with his duties as Black Queens head coach after guiding the women’s team to bronze at the 2025 WAFCON and qualification for the 2026 edition.
To boost scouting and analysis, Spanish coach Jose Daniel MartÃnez Alfonso has been added. He currently works as an assistant coach and video analyst with Atlanta United FC. The medical team has also been reinforced with the return of physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, who previously worked with the Black Stars during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Completing the additions is British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, whose focus will be on conditioning, player optimisation, and performance levels throughout the campaign.
The appointments are specific to the 2026 World Cup and align with the GFA’s tradition of expanding the technical team for major tournaments. They will work alongside the existing staff led by head coach Otto Addo.
Ghana have been drawn to face Panama, England, and Croatia, as they aim to surpass their best World Cup finish, the quarter-final run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
