Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has insisted Thomas Partey remains a key player for the Black Stars.
His defense come after Villarreal coach Marcelino Garcia questioned Partey's performance after their Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
The 32-year-old joined the Spanish side as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Arsenal.
However, he has struggled to live up to expectations due to injuries. It has since been reported that Partey has been playing through injury.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Asante Twum admitted the coach was so harsh with his choice of words and added Thomas Partey is still a top player and a key figure to the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup
“We believe in the quality of Partey, and we do not believe one game defines him as a player," he said.
"At the FA, we do not share the coach’s view on this matter. Partey remains a top player, and we have a strong belief in his qualities," Asante Twum added.
Thomas Partey is expected to be named in Black Stars squad for the international friendly games against Austria and Germany next month as part of team's preparations for the 2026 World Cup this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
