Ajegipina Zakaria says receiving her first call-up to the Black Queens is a moment she will never forget as the young player continues to enjoy a major milestone in her career.
The talented player from Ampem Darkoa Ladies described the moment she was informed of her selection as a dream come true.
“I was very, very happy,” Zakaria said. “I was at Ampem Darkoa when they told me they were calling me to come and play for the Black Queens. I told my parents first.”
Zakaria’s love for football began at a very young age. She revealed that she started playing the game when she was about two years old, often joining boys in her community because girls’ football was not widely embraced.
“Girls, they don’t take football as something that is very, very good. But because of the guys, the way they are playing, I also joined them,” she explained.
Now part of the national team setup, the young player is eager to learn from experienced players in the squad.
She also expressed admiration for Portia Boakye, the captain of the Black Queens, describing her as a player who inspires confidence among teammates.
“First, I was happy to have Portia. She’s a good player. If I’m playing with her, I’m always happy because she’s a talented player,” Zakaria added.
Her call-up marks an important step in her development as she looks to establish herself in the national team.
