Asante Kotoko will host Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday in the final fixture of matchday 28, with both sides chasing important objectives as the season enters a decisive phase.
Kotoko head into the contest knowing that only a win will be enough to reclaim third place and keep their fading title hopes alive. Following results elsewhere over the weekend, they find themselves eight points off the top, leaving little margin for error in the remaining fixtures.
The Porcupine Warriors come into the game on the back of a draw against Aduana FC, extending their unbeaten run to two matches. However, consistency remains a concern, with their overall record reflecting a mixed campaign of seven wins, seven defeats and six draws in their last twenty outings.
Samartex, meanwhile, have their sights set on securing a top-half finish and will view this fixture as an opportunity to strengthen their position. They currently sit seventh on 38 points, five behind Kotoko, but arrive in Kumasi in poor form.
The visitors are without a win in their last eight matches and suffered a setback in their previous outing against Bechem United. Defensive frailties have also been evident, particularly on the road, where they have conceded in each of their last four away games.
Recent meetings between the two sides suggest a closely contested encounter. Since March 2023, they have faced each other six times, with Kotoko holding the edge with three wins, compared to Samartex’s one, while two matches have ended in draws. Their most recent meeting, in November 2025, finished goalless.
With Kotoko needing momentum in the title race and Samartex aiming to halt their slide, Monday’s clash promises to be a tense and competitive affair in Kumasi.
