Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed he was fully aware of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to dismiss Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
The Buem MP stated the move did not come as a surprise following consultation between the GFA and the ministry.
The dismissal follows a disastrous international window, including a 5-1 loss to Austria, and comes just 72 days before the 2026 World Cup, with Addo securing only eight wins in 22 matches during his second tenure.
Speaking on the KSM Show, Adams noted the GFA kept the government informed throughout the deliberation process, citing dissatisfaction with the team's recent poor performance trajectory.
“I cannot sit here and pretend that I did not know the FA was going to do that [sack Otto Addo], and that it came to me as a surprise. They did inform me that they had done everything.”
The GFA is expected to announce a new head coach by the end of week as the 2026 World Cup is just under 59 days.
The incoming coach will have limited time to prepare the squad for Group L fixtures against Panama, England, and Croatia.
