Former Ghana international Daniel Opare says persistent injuries denied him the career he once looked set to achieve at the highest level.
Opare, who emerged as one of Ghana’s brightest prospects, built early momentum at Real Madrid Castilla and broke into the Black Stars setup with high expectations.
However, repeated injury setbacks stalled that progress at key moments.
"It is not easy to get to that level so [I am thankful]," he told JoySports.
"I regretted a little bit because of the injuries because I could have fulfilled my potential."
He missed the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an ankle injury in pre-tournament preparations, and another setback ruled him out of the 2013 edition, where he had been in contention for the starting right-back role.
"Personally, my potential was not fully fulfilled [because of injuries], that was my only regret," he added.
At club level, Opare enjoyed his most consistent spell with Standard Liège, earning a move to FC Porto in 2014.
But injuries continued to disrupt his rhythm, limiting his impact during later stints with FC Augsburg and BeÅiktaÅ J.K..
