Mohammed Salisu has expressed his delight after returning to the pitch as he steps up his recovery from a long-term knee injury at AS Monaco.
The Ghana international resumed individual ball work at the club’s training base, marking a significant milestone in his rehabilitation after months on the sidelines.
“I mean it’s an amazing feeling on the first day [back], you know, and I’m looking forward for more,” Salisu remarked after the session.
The 26-year-old has been out of action since January 2026, when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique Lyonnais.
His return to light training signals the final phase of a demanding recovery programme that followed successful surgery earlier this year.
Monaco’s medical team are expected to gradually increase his workload before clearing him for full team training.
Prior to the injury, Salisu was a key figure in Monaco’s defence and an important player for the Ghana national football team, scoring twice during the World Cup qualifiers.
Despite the positive progress, a return in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains unlikely.
Standard recovery timelines for ACL injuries mean he is not expected to be ready for high-intensity competition before the autumn.
Monaco are instead focused on ensuring the defender regains full fitness ahead of the 2026-27 season, with no intention of rushing his comeback.
