Carlos Queiroz has framed confidence and personality as key weapons for Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that strong egos within the squad will serve as a statement of intent to group opponents.
The Black Stars coach believes that visible self-belief and authority on the pitch will signal to sides like Panama and England that Ghana’s players are prepared, focused and fully aware of their purpose on the global stage.
Speaking on the Ghana Football Association’s Beyond the Whistle podcast, Queiroz stressed that ego, when properly managed, becomes a competitive advantage rather than a disruption.
The veteran tactician, who took charge in April 2026 following the departure of Otto Addo, is prioritising mentality as much as tactics as he shapes the squad for the tournament in North America.
“Tell me one thing: you have your ego, I have my ego, and everybody has egos in life. The problem is not to have egos, it's just to put the egos at the service of the national team.
“And I am very much confident, I saw the games, the players from Ghana, they do that, they commit themselves.
“Sometimes we don't win, sometimes it's not possible, other things, but it's not the issue of the egos. So I love to work with egos. I need them in the team, I need that when Panama and England watch our players, they say wow, these guys, they know why they are here, so that's important.”
