Black Starlets head coach Prosper Ogum has pointed to wastefulness in front of goal as a key reason Ghana were held to a 2-2 draw by Algeria on Thursday in their Group D opener at the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.
Ghana raced into a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes through Yao Gavi Robinho and Eric Adu Gyamfi, but failed to extend their advantage despite controlling much of the first half.
Ogum admitted his side created enough opportunities to put the game beyond Algeria before the break, stressing that several of the chances were “easier to score than to miss.”
“Absolutely. We created a lot of chances that were easier to score than to miss, so many of them. So if people are saying that we should have, I mean, finished the game in the first half, I affirm what they have said. We created a lot of chances.
"We were in total control of the game in the first half, defensively and offensively we were in control. Created the chances. We should have finished them in the first half.”
The Black Starlets now turn their focus to Senegal, where Ogum will demand sharper finishing as Ghana seek to secure their first win of the tournament.
