Anton Donkor's move to OFI Crete collapses

(Photo by Alex Gottschalk/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images)[/caption]German-Ghanaian defender Anton Donkor is set to stay with Schalke 04 after his proposed transfer to Greek club OFI Crete failed to materialize.The 28-year-old left-back was expected to leave the club, but the deal has now collapsed, leaving Schalke with another unresolved squad issue.The failed transfer is a setback for the Royal Blues, who no longer see Donkor as a key part of their sporting plans. At the same time, he still counts among the better-paid players in the squad, which makes a quick solution desirable for the club. Schalke will now have to look for fresh interest elsewhere if they want to move him on this summer.Donkors career has taken him through several stages before arriving in Gelsenkirchen. He joined Everton on loan in January 2017, then returned there for a second loan spell after an injury-hit first stint.Later, he signed for Carl Zeiss Jena in 2019, moved on to Waldhof Mannheim in 2020 and then joined Eintracht Braunschweig in 2022. Schalke secured him on a free transfer in May 2024 on a deal running until June 2027.According to Transfermarkt, Anton Donkor's current market value is 400,000 euros. Read Full Story
