Home-based Black Meteors report to camp on Wednesday as Olympic qualifying preparations begin (best option)

Ghana's quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games will officially get underway on Wednesday, August 5, as the Black Meteors open a residential training camp in Accra ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Head coach Desmond Ofei will assemble the home-based contingent at the Erata Hotel in East Legon, with players expected to report at 4 p.m. for the first phase of preparations.

The initial camp will feature players selected from Ghana Premier League and Division One League clubs, forming the backbone of the squad before foreign-based players join at a later stage under separate camping arrangements.

The Black Meteors are preparing for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which doubles as the qualification route to the men's football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Although the qualifiers begin during the September international window, Ghana will not be in action until October after receiving a first-round bye.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to conduct the draw and announce Ghana's opponents.

Ofei, who has earned praise for his work with Ghana's youth national teams, will use the training camp to assess the domestic players and establish the foundation of a squad expected to challenge for continental success.

The upcoming sessions will focus on building chemistry, evaluating individual performances and preparing the team for the decisive qualifying ties later this year as Ghana targets a return to the U-23 AFCON and a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
