German-born Ghanaian winger Denis Donkor has returned to Rot-Weiss Oberhausen for the 2026/27 season, rejoining the club where he established himself as an important player and fan favourite.
The 23-year-old right winger has agreed to return to Oberhausen after spending the 2025/26 campaign with TSG Hoffenheim II, where he gained valuable experience in Germany's 3. Liga.
Donkor previously represented Oberhausen between 2022 and 2025, making 84 appearances across competitions. During that period, he scored four goals and registered 17 assists, playing an important role in the club's attacking setup.
His return makes him the third player to rejoin Oberhausen this summer, following the arrivals of Nils Winter and Kerem Yalcin. The club believes Donkor's familiarity with the squad, coaching staff and playing philosophy will allow him to settle back into the team quickly.
Oberhausen's Sporting Director Dennis Lichtenwimmer-Conversano expressed his delight at bringing the winger back to Stadion Niederrhein.
"Denis also benefited from the new direction we initiated two years ago, and now we want to pick up right where we left off," Lichtenwimmer-Conversano said. "He knows the playing system, many of his teammates, and the club."
Donkor is equally enthusiastic about returning to the club where he enjoyed a successful spell.
"I'm incredibly excited to be back and to play with the lads in the stadium in front of our fans," he said.
"I know the environment and the coaching staff and I know how professionally things are done here. Everyone works hard, and I will give everything for the club's goals."
With his previous experience at the club and a season of third-tier football behind him, Donkor will be hoping to make a significant impact as Oberhausen targets a strong campaign in the 2026/27 season.
