Basake Holy Stars will begin their Ghana Premier League campaign at the AAK II Sports Area when they welcome Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, September 4, 2026, with both sides eager to start the season on a winning note.
Holy Stars will be hoping to make home advantage count as they target an improved campaign after finishing 12th last season.
The hosts have brought back Abdulai Gazale as head coach, giving him another opportunity to lead the club he guided during their maiden season in the top flight. Gazale will be encouraged by the familiarity within his squad, with the team he left a year ago largely intact. That continuity could prove important as the coach looks to quickly implement his ideas and make an immediate impact.
Holy Stars will be determined to avoid another mid-table battle and will see Sunday's encounter as an opportunity to lay down an early marker.
Swedru All Blacks, meanwhile, have also entered the new campaign with changes in their technical set-up. The Black Magicians have appointed Kobinah Amissah as their new head coach, while Kassim Mingle has taken up the role of Technical Director.
After narrowly escaping relegation last season, All Blacks will be keen to put that disappointment behind them and produce a more convincing campaign this time around.
The club has also been active in reshaping its squad. Following the departure of forward Rudolf Mensah in August, the visitors moved to bring in former Nation FC attacker Faisal Charwetey as his replacement. The 23-year-old is among several additions made by the Black Magicians, with free agent Prince Arthur, who previously featured for Karela United and Nation FC, also joining the squad.
Amissah will be hoping the new arrivals can provide the quality needed to transform All Blacks' fortunes after their narrow escape from relegation last term.
With both teams eager to put their previous campaigns behind them and begin the new season positively, Sunday's encounter promises to be an intriguing contest.
Holy Stars will have home advantage and the familiarity of Gazale's return on their side, while All Blacks will be looking to their new technical team and reinforcements to make a statement.
With three points up for grabs for both sides, this could be a closely fought opening-day battle where neither team will be willing to give anything away.
