AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Niger to host games in Accra after stadium approval

Niger will play their home matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Ghana's Accra Sports Stadium after receiving approval to use the venue for their campaign.

The West African nation remains unable to host CAF or FIFA-sanctioned international matches on home soil because none of its stadiums currently meet the required standards.

As a result, the Nigerien Football Federation sought permission to use Ghana's national stadium, extending a run of playing competitive home fixtures outside the country.

Niger staged their home matches in Morocco during the previous AFCON qualifying campaign and will once again rely on a foreign venue as they attempt to secure a place at the 2027 finals.

Drawn in Group A alongside Morocco, Gabon and Lesotho, Niger will welcome their opponents to Accra for all three of their home qualifying matches.

The arrangement comes after the Accra Sports Stadium regained CAF approval following extensive renovation works undertaken by Ghana's National Sports Authority (NSA).

The stadium is currently Ghana's approved venue for international fixtures after months of refurbishment aimed at meeting continental standards.

Niger begin their qualifying campaign against Lesotho on 25 September before travelling to face Gabon four days later.

The top two teams from each qualifying group will qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
