Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has described the 2026 FIFA World Cup experience as highly important to his plans for the future, saying the tournament provided valuable insight into the qualities and character of his players.
Queiroz is set to continue at the helm of the Black Stars as qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament begins later this month.
The Black Stars will commence their AFCON qualifying campaign with an away fixture against neighbours Ivory Coast on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The West African football giants will then travel to Morocco for a friendly against the Atlas Lions on October 4.
According to Queiroz, the intense work carried out during Ghana’s World Cup campaign has given the technical team a deeper understanding of the squad as preparations begin for a new cycle.
“Very important. We worked intensively on the entire process we went through during the World Cup. It was an experience that gave us a deep understanding of the players, their qualities and their character.”
He added: “We have a fantastic group and a fantastic national-team culture. I am a very proud coach to be part of this group.”
With the World Cup now behind them, Queiroz is looking to use the experience gained from the tournament as a foundation for Ghana’s next phase.
The Portuguese tactician’s immediate task is to guide the Black Stars through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers while also developing a team capable of competing at the highest level in the years ahead.
