From Ernest Best Anane, Effiduase-Ashanti
Government appointees in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been charged to live above partisan politics in the discharge of their duties as members of the Assemblies.
Mr. Kumi Achiaw, the Co-ordinating Director of Sekyere East in the Ashanti region who gave the advice at a swearing in of government appointees into the Assembly reminded them that the constitution demands that appointees put the needs of the electorate first and above partisan politics.
He charged the government appointees to show full commitment and respect to Assembly meetings saying Assembly meetings are paramount because the Assembly is a subordinate to the regional coordinating council which is part of the central government.
Mr. Michael Ocloo, the district magistrate of Effiduase, swore the 12 government appointees into office.
Two of them were elected to represent them in the upcoming elections of the regional representative of the Council of State election.
Mr. Foster Asare, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, advised Assembly members at the election of the representative on Council of State to vote for persons who are conversant with the pressing issues affecting the grassroots and advise the president accordingly.
According to him, the one to represent the region must be enlightened on the political landscape and be able to address his people periodically.
Mr. Osei Adiyia, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairman for the area, entreated both the elected and the appointees to embrace unity and togetherness, which he said would be their hallmark to succeed in improving the lives of the electorate.
