The Anglican Church has conferred the Cross of St. Augustine Award on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The occasion was when the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Portal Welby, in the company of many leaders of the Anglican Church worldwide, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene over the weekend, Saturday 11th February, 2023.
The Asantehene was conferred with the “Cross of St. Augustine” for his invaluable contribution to peace and to the church.
“I am always mindful of the fact that I was enstooled (as Asantehene) by the grace of GOD…I am here to serve…” the Asantehene said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu is the recent recipient of the Prestigious St Augustine cross. The last to be awarded the cross was the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The cross is an award of merit given by the Archbishop of Canterbury and awarded to members of the Anglican Communion who have made significant contributions to the life of the worldwide Communion, or to a particular autonomous church within Anglicanism.
