The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the Wassa Amenfi East constituency in the Saturday’s polls, Ernest Frimpong, is likely to win the seat for the NPP with a landslide margin.
According to Poll Watch, a local election research group based in the Western Region, PC Frimpong will win the polls with not less than 54% of the total valid votes on Saturday.
This was contained in a maiden research finding released by Poll Watch ahead of the December 7th Presidential and Parliamentary General Elections.
According to Poll Watch, the extensive research, which sampled the opinions of about five thousand electorate, sought their views on what were likely to inform their decision in choosing a parliamentary candidate.
The specific areas of interest, where views of the people were sampled, were vision and policies, competence, trust, lobbying skills, integrity and character
The research, which largely concentrated on the two main candidates in the contest – Nicholas Amankwa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the incumbent, the New Patriotic Party’s Ernest Frimpong, saw the latter scoring high marks.
The research pointed out that Ernest Frimpong has received overwhelming endorsement from majority of the respondents as about 71% of them claimed that they would vote for the NPP candidate.
According to 71% of the respondents, Ernest Frimpong has endeared himself to them and has, therefore, won their trusts because he swiftly responded to their needs anytime they called on him.
His ability to lobby for projects into the constituency as well as many development initiatives that he has personally initiated across the constituency, were the main trump card.
Further checks to verify the said projects and initiatives engineered by Ernest Frimpong to help improve the lives of the people under his – “Let there be light” projects, revealed that several communities have been connected to the national grid.
They mentioned for instance that he has lobbied for the extension of electricity to the following communities;Ehyireso, Dikoto Junction, Mansokrom, Wasa Kumasi, Enkyesenmu and Boraso.
According to residents of Asikuma, Dadieso, Japa, Dompoase, Bawdie, Nkonya, Asundua and Subriso, PC Frimpong has redeemed his promise to lobby for expansion of electricity to their communities.
He has sponsored the mounting of approximately 500 streets lights within Wassa Amenfi township,as part of the “let there be light” initiative.
At Wassa Akropong, Mr Frimpong has sponsored the construction of a drainage system at Light House to end the perennial flooding situation witnessed around the government hospital area.
From his own resources, he has constructed an ultra-modern National Health Insurance Office Complex in Wassa Akropong, built a school block and an ICT Centre at Epom.
MODEST HOSTEL PROJECT
Mr Frimpong has also constructed a hundred capacity modest hostel facility at the Government Hospital at Akropong, to provide decent accommodation to families of patients who would be admitted at the hospital.
Following the increase in population of Bibianeha community, Mr Frimpong has built a clinic to replace their CHIP Compound in order to render an improved service delivery to the inhabitants.
In the religious front, Mr Frimpong has donated a 75-inch LCD TV to the Believers Worship Centre, donated 50 bags of cement to the Apostolic Church at Dawurampong and constructed a pulpit for the Presbyterian Church at Akropong.
Youth and sports development
Ernest Frimpong has pledged to implement youth and sports initiatives that would be carefully designed to provide the youth of Amenfi East with greater opportunities in ports.
This, he explained, would foster communal spirit and promote healthy living through active participation in sports activities among the youth in the constituency.
To achieve this, he has planned to upgrade the existing Astroturf into a full-fledged sports complex, with spectator stands to accommodate supporters during sporting events, if he gets elected.
According to the research findings by Poll Watch, most of the respondents agreed Mr Frimpong had what it would mean to lobby for more projects into his constituency if elected.
This underscored their profound aspirations to get him to lead their community as the Member of Parliament on Saturday.
