The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be behind a string of violent robberies across parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, the suspects were said to have attacked a residence at Peduase in Aburi on November 29, 2025. During the attack, the robbers, who were armed with firearms, allegedly made away with mobile phones, jewellery, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to the police, following intelligence-led investigations, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), working together with their counterparts from the Accra Regional PID, arrested one of the suspects, Kofi Ishmael, aged 30, on January 6, 2026, at Avenor in Accra. During interrogation, Ishmael reportedly admitted his involvement in the robbery.

The statement further disclosed that acting on intelligence gathered from the suspect, police arrested Kwame Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed within a fence wall, along with four BB cartridges. Bediako also admitted involvement in several robbery cases and was identified as the ringleader of the syndicate.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in multiple highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch. The suspects reportedly disclosed that they were preparing to carry out another robbery at the time of their arrest.

So far, police have arrested and detained seven suspects, including one who is currently on admission receiving medical treatment.
The suspects in custody have been identified as Salia Mohammed, alias Kwaku Nuah, aged 27; Kofi Ishmael, alias Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, aged 32; Kwame Bediako, alias Star Boy or Nkokorpor; Kwadwo Kalovi, alias Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, alias Mogambo, aged 39; Kwasi Akambuley, alias Kwasi Fresh, aged 27 and Kwame Bonsu, alias Killer Ntua. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices who remain at large.

Superintendent Obeng indicated that the suspects have been linked to several previous robbery cases, including attacks on market women and motorists, as well as a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life.

Some of the suspects are also reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases currently pending before the courts.

Exhibits retrieved so far include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activities and urged anyone with information that could assist ongoing investigations to report to the nearest police station.
