MoH Shuts Down Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College Over Student Unrest

The Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo in the Bono East Region following prolonged student unrest and what it described as a breakdown in discipline and adherence to the institution’s rules and regulations.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry said the decision takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

According to the Ministry, the closure became necessary after several attempts to restore calm through dialogue failed to yield the desired results.

It said meetings, counselling sessions and appeals involving key stakeholders, including the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), had been held to encourage students to resolve their grievances peacefully and allow academic work to continue.

However, the Ministry noted that some students persisted in actions that disrupted academic activities and threatened the peace, safety and orderly administration of the college.

“The temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow the appropriate authorities to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps toward reopening the College under conducive conditions,” the statement said.

The Ministry directed all students to vacate the campus peacefully by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and return to their respective homes.

It also urged parents and guardians to make the necessary arrangements to receive their wards.

While expressing regret over the disruption to academic work, the Ministry assured students, parents and staff that every effort would be made to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

It added that information on the reopening of the institution would be communicated through official channels when conditions permit.

The Ministry appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders as it works with relevant authorities to restore a safe, peaceful and disciplined learning environment at the college.
