Two Caged For Trafficking Eleven Nigerians

The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ presided over by Her Honour Naomi Adusei Amaniampog Kucour has jailed two male Ghanaians for trafficking 11 Nigerians and causing harm to the victims.

The Tema Regional Police Command secured the conviction and sentencing of Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely human trafficking, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); human trafficking, contrary to Section 2(2) of the Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act

694); and causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, the Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, told newsmen in a press statement on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, that the two accused persons were arrested on August 20, 2023 at Sebrepor, a suburb of Tema, following a distress call received by the Afienya District Police Command that some persons had been held in a house against their will.

She said a police patrol team was dispatched to the location where with the assistance of concerned residents, arrested the two suspects and rescued 11 Nigerian nationals who had been kept in the house.

ASP Dzakpasu narrated that a search of the premises led to the recovery of 16 laptops and one iPad from rooms occupied by the suspects, and continued that further police investigations established that the victims had been recruited from Nigeria to Ghana by the suspects under the pretext of securing employment for them.

However, upon their arrival in Ghana, the victims were forced into cyber-related activities and confined to the house at Sebrepor where the suspects reportedly confiscated the victims’ mobile phones and identification cards and compelled them to engage in internet fraud using the laptops provided to them.

“Investigations further revealed that the victims were fed once a day and subjected to severe physical abuse whenever they failed to comply with instructions. They were allegedly beaten

with laptop cables and machetes, resulting in injuries, including cutlass wounds. The victims were also found to be malnourished and in poor health,” she explained in the press statement.

Following the trial at the court, Kingsley Ndifon and Emmanuel Akong were found guilty on Counts Two and Three of human trafficking and causing harm respectively of which the court sentenced each accused person to 20 years of imprisonment on Count Two and ten years’ imprisonment on Count Three, with both sentences to run concurrently.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu said the Tema Regional Police Command remains committed to combating human trafficking, cyber-related crimes and all forms of abuse, and urged the public to promptly report suspected cases of human trafficking and other criminal activities to the police.
