The ambition and drive of Africa’s youth and women have become too glaring to ignore. More and more individuals within these demographics are eager to innovate and contribute positively to the development of their immediate environment, and subsequently to the world at large. So now more than ever, there is an apparent need for empowerment programs aimed at African women and young Africans.
Fortunately, there are programs that are tailor-made to address this need. One such program is the US African Development Foundation (USADF) Accelerate Africa Entrepreneurship Challenge 2022. The aim of this challenge is to bolster job creation in Africa, particularly for the youth and women.
The US African Development Foundation has been set up to invest in Micro, Small, and Mid-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This program was also created to solve some other unattended issues, like creating job opportunities that tighten the gap the youth bulge is creating. Enhancing youth productivity and livelihoods.
Other intent of this program includes empowering youths and women to teach them how to apply business solutions to social problems and create sustainable employment across Africa. Addressing the needs of underserved and at-risk communities and/or market demand. Define market opportunities and supply chain linkages for youth and women-owned MSMEs.
To be eligible to be a part of this program, enterprises of candidates must be 100% African-owned. Only candidates in these countries qualify; Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
Candidates' businesses must procure a concise solution to a problem plaguing the African economy, and have a sustainability metric. Successful applicants will receive: A grant of $50,000 to $250,000 from USADF Access to support on technical assistance and governance. The deadline for application is on the 30th of September.
