The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, says this year will be a good year for football in Ghana.
Asante Twum admitted that 2024 was not a bright year as far as football is concerned in the country, but believes 2025 will be much better.
Speaking on Asempa FM, he highlighted the achievements of both the men’s and women’s Under-20 teams last year in contrast to the senior men’s national teams' poor performances.
The year 2024 was a bad year for our football. The Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament and the Black Galaxies also failed to qualify for the CHAN tournament.
The Black Satellites and Black Princesses made us proud but I believe that the year 2025 will be a good year for our football.
Both the Black Galaxies and Black Princesses won gold at the 2023 African Games hosted in Accra in March 2024.
Hope for 2026 World Cup
Asante Twum added that now the focus should be on the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, and hopes they can make it to the Mundial in the USA, Canada, and Mexico next year.
The Black Stars is trying to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and we hope that will be achieved.
Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco for the first time in 20 years.
Head coach Otto Addo’s men crushed out of the qualifying stages after failing to win any of their six games against Angola, Sudan, and Niger in Group F.
They will look to redeem themselves when they face Chad and Madagascar in the World Cup qualifiers this March.
