Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to Hungary, Dr. Kwame Ampofo, has officially assumed his duties after presenting his Letters of Credence to President Tamás Sulyok at the Sándor Palace in Budapest on 15th December 2025.
The ceremony marked a diplomatic milestone and underscored Ghana’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Hungary.
Ambassador Ampofo, who succeeds Ambassador Doris Brese, conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and extended best wishes from the government and people of Ghana to their Hungarian counterparts.

Following the formal presentation, he held a private audience with President Sulyok, during which discussions focused on mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
President Sulyok welcomed the establishment of a Ghanaian Resident Diplomatic Mission in Budapest, describing it as a significant step to strengthen friendship and collaboration.
He emphasised that a diplomatic presence would foster cultural exchange, people-to-people interactions, and economic partnerships between the two countries.
Key sectors highlighted during the discussions included agriculture, education, energy, trade and water treatment.
On agriculture, both leaders explored cooperation in poultry production, technology transfer, and veterinary research, including support for small-scale poultry initiatives such as “Nkoko Nketekete.”
In education, the focus was on the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, with Hungary reaffirming its commitment to providing scholarships for Ghanaian students.
Ambassador Ampofo expressed gratitude for the existing opportunities and called for expanded academic exchanges to strengthen institutional and cultural ties.

Energy collaboration was another major point, with both sides recognizing the importance of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
President Sulyok encouraged Ambassador Ampofo, an energy expert, to leverage his experience to expand Ghana’s energy access, particularly in solar, biomass, and other sustainable projects.
The leaders also discussed enhancing trade relations, water treatment initiatives, and the prospect of a high-level presidential visit from Ghana to Hungary. Such a visit, they agreed, would consolidate bilateral ties and provide a platform for signing sector-specific cooperation agreements.
Following the credential ceremony, Ambassador Ampofo laid a wreath at Budapest’s Heroes’ Square in honor of Hungary’s national heroes, symbolising respect for the host nation’s history and shared values of peace and national pride.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, exploring new avenues of cooperation, and supporting each country’s development objectives.
