Ghanaian youngster Douglas Owusu is on the brink of a major career leap after agreeing to join Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in a landmark transfer, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.
The 19-year-old attacker, who has enjoyed an impressive rise in Serbian football this season, is set to sign a three-year contract with an option for a further year, with Red Star paying a fee in the region of 2.7 million Euros to secure his services from FK Radnik Surdulica.
All aspects of the deal have been finalised, with only the player’s signature remaining.
Owusu is expected to complete the formalities and join Red Star's squad in Antalya, Turkey, where the club is currently holding its mid-season pre-season camp.
Owusu’s move comes on the back of a standout first half of the season, which recently saw him named in the Serbian Super Liga Team of the First Round - a recognition that underlined his growing influence and consistency in one of Eastern Europe’s competitive leagues.
He has been one of Radnik’s key performers, contributing seven goals in 20 league appearances, while also impressing with his work rate, intelligent movement and ability to link play in advanced areas.
His all-round game has made him a constant threat to opposing defences and a vital figure in Radnik’s campaign.
Since joining Radnik in 2024 from Ghanaian side Asekem FC, Owusu has adapted quickly to the physical and tactical demands of Serbian football, establishing himself as a core member of the squad in a remarkably short time.
His rapid development had already attracted interest from clubs across Europe and beyond, including Young Boys, Samsunspor, and Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly, but Red Star have moved decisively to win the race for his signature.
The transfer represents a significant milestone in Owusu’s young career and positions him on a bigger European stage, with Red Star regularly competing in continental competitions.
The move reflects a clear upward trajectory for the young Ghanaian attacker and a chance to further enhance his growing reputation in European football.
