Zijin Akyem Development Foundation (ZADeF), the sustainable community development arm of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, has cut sod for thirteen (13) development projects valued at over GH¢4.18 million to benefit the mine host communities in the Birim North District if Ghana.
The ceremony, held at the Abirem District Assembly, brought together traditional authorities, government officials, development partners, and residents to witness the launch of projects aimed at improving infrastructure, livelihoods, and social services.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of ZADeF, Samuel Ofosu, described the initiative as a major milestone in enhancing service delivery and improving the quality of life of community members.
He noted that the projects were carefully selected to address critical needs in education, healthcare, sanitation, and community development.

He emphasised that the projects will create meaningful impact in the lives of the community members.
Chief Operating Officer of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, Yufeng Li, on his part, noted, “these projects are designed to make a real, concrete difference in the communities we serve.”
The projects include the construction of sports facilities and fencing at Afosu RC Basic School (GH¢800,000) and Mamanso Presby Basic School (GH¢700,000), as well as a high-level water storage facility at Afosu Islamic Basic School (GH¢42,000).
The projects in New Abirem include waste band walls (GH¢113,687.75) and landscaping at the Police Quarters (GH¢547,235.10).
Sanitation facilities are also being provided in Old Abirem and Adausena, including a 10-seater W.C facility (GH¢196,238.83) and a 2-bay urinal (GH¢79,697.10), alongside the reconstruction of a school feeding building (GH¢250,105.00).
Other projects include the renovation of a community centre at Hweakwae (GH¢445,113.3) and support for local economic activities in Amanfrom through the fencing (GH¢187,123.56) and construction of storage facilities (GH¢185,024.72) at a palm oil processing centre.
Additionally, a durbar ground is being constructed at Praso Kuma (GH¢315,281.32), while a CHPS compound at Akrofonso (GH¢320,000) is expected to improve access to primary healthcare.
Stakeholders at the event commended the strong collaboration between ZADeF, traditional authorities, the District Assembly, noting that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.
