Jomoro District Best Farmer goes to 61 year old Charles Hammond
Takinta (W/R), Nov. 3, GNA - A 61-year-old farmer at Onzanyamenleye, near Elubo, Mr Charles Hammond on Friday adjudged the Jomoro district overall best farmer in the 28th National Farmers’ Day celebration at Takinta near Half Assini.
He took home double-door refrigerator, Sonica radio cassette player, fornix bicycle, a spraying machine, six pieces cutlasses and two pair of Wellington boots.
Seventeen other outstanding farmers were also awarded for the hard work and given full piece of Wax prints, a pair of Wellington Boots, three pieces of cutlasses and bags of wheat.
The Jomoro District Chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Daddie urged farmers to form effective and sustainable cooperatives to market their produce at competitive prices.
He said food supply chain had been characterized by a lot middlemen, who over the years had robbed farmers of their needed rightful income.
The Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Annor Adjaye, who chaired the function, said the oil extraction in the area would affect sea fishing and
He therefore urged the youth who could not weed to enter into fishing to enable them earn a livelihood.
