Kelvin Boateng scored deep into added time to seal Austria Wien’s 3â1 home win over Sturm Graz in Round 17 of the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.
The Ghanaian striker began the match on the bench and was introduced in the 90th minute for Johannes Eggestein. With little time left, Boateng stayed alert in the box and finished from close range in the ninth minute of stoppage time, sending the Generali Arena into celebration.
Sturm Graz struck first through Arjan Malic in the seventh minute, but Austria Wien settled quickly. Reinhold Ranftl levelled matters in the 19th minute after good work from Eggestein. The hosts then took control just before the break when Eggestein calmly converted a penalty after Manfred Fischer was fouled.
Austria Wien absorbed pressure in the second half and managed the game well despite seeing less of the ball. Sturm Graz pushed forward but failed to find a way back.
Boateng’s late goal rewarded the home fans and underlined his sharp instincts. Austria Wien now shift focus to their next league test against Salzburg.
