Rayo Vallecano coach Ãñigo Pérez has provided an update on the recovery of Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin, who has been sidelined with an ACL injury since early 2025. '
The manager expressed optimism about the player's progress but stressed the importance of patience and a full recovery.
"He's close, but we mustn't rush," Pérez stated, emphasising the medical team's cautious approach. "We must prioritise his full recovery. He is a key player for us, and it is more important that he returns at 100% than that he returns quickly."
Mumin, 26, established himself as a crucial part of Rayo's defense in the 2024/25 season before his injury, making 24 appearances and contributing two goals and an assist. Pérez had previously hailed his performances, calling it a "sensational season" and noting the defender was "playing at a high level".
With his current contract expiring in June 2026, the club has moved to secure his long-term future. Rayo Vallecano has reportedly opened contract talks with the defender and his representatives, offering a new three-year deal that would keep him at the club until 2029.
Pérez's comments reflect a balancing act between eagerness to reintegrate a top performer and the necessity of ensuring the player's long-term health and effectiveness. No specific timeline has been set for Mumin's return to first-team training or match action, but the club is clearly planning for his role in their future.
