Ghana international Inaki Williams, who is the captain of Athletic Bilbao admits the club has had a challenging season in the Spanish La Liga and Champions league at large.
The San Mames outfit has struggled to match last season’s achievement that saw Ernesto Valverde’s side secure qualification back to Europe after long absence.
Currently, Athletic Bilbao find themselves in 12th position in the La Liga standings, accumulating 24 points after 21 matches into the season.
In the Champions League, the Spanish outfit has struggled to live up to expectation, winning two games, drawing two and losing three matches from seven games in the group phase, undermining their chances of securing a place in the knockout stage.
Athletic Bilbao will have to grind results in the final round of group phase games to ensure a spot in the Champions League playoff.
“Things aren't turning out the way we want them to. We know it, and we feel it. But this group remains standing.” He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “There's still a long way to go; we're alive and with the same ambition as always”
“With your support, we're going to keep fighting every day, TOGETHER, until the end. The Athletic Club NEVER gives up. This team and this fan base will NEVER lower their arms. WE KEEP GOING!” he added.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian forward has had a modest performance in the current campaign due to injury setbacks. Williams has made 19 appearances across competitions for Athletic Bilbao, scoring just a goal across the period.
