The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Morocco and Paris Saint Germain star Achraf Hakimi with a two-game for unsporting behavior in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.
In a high-stakes final held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the pacey Moroccan full-back m was captured taking a towel belonging to Senegal goalkeeper Ãdouard Mendy and throwing it into the stands.
Besides, the reigning African Footballer of the Year combined with teammate Ismaël Saibari attempting to prevent the return of the towel to Mendy.
After a thorough review, CAF has cracked their whip, slapping Hakimi with a two-game ban, with one of the matches being suspended for a year.
A statement from CAF reads, “To suspend the Moroccan National Team player, Mr Achraf Hakimi for two (2) official CAF matches, with one (1) these matches being suspended for one (1) year from the date of this decision, for his unsporting behaviour”
The highly rated defender, who recently bagged the Africa Footballer of the Year going is expected to appeal the ruling by CAF.
