Heart of Lions Communications Director Eric Eli Adzie is defiantly keeping faith in his team's Ghana Premier League title chances, citing the unpredictable nature of football as the reason they remain contenders despite a challenging season.
Adzie's comments come with Heart of Lions sitting seventh in the table, having collected 27 points from 20 matchesâa full 16 points behind runaway leaders Medeama SC. Despite the significant gap, Adzie insists the race is far from over.
"In as much as Medeama are actually runaway leaders, I think anything can happen in football," Adzie told Citi Sports. "If you look at the number of matches left, anything at all can happen. Clubs can falter, clubs can stumble, and others can also overtake them. So we are not out of the title race yet."
He framed the team's recent struggles as part of a necessary learning process.
"The Ghana Premier League has taught us some bitter lessons these few weeks, and we are not ruling ourselves out of contention because the moment we play in the tournament, we should be playing for the ultimate," Adzie stated, underlining the club's ambition.
That ambition faces an immediate and formidable test as Heart of Lions prepare to host second-placed Asante Kotoko at the Kpando Sports Stadium on January 31.
With only one win in their last ten league matches, Adzie's belief that "anything can happen" will need to translate into a remarkable on-field performance if the Lions are to reignite their fading title hopes.
