New Shrewsbury Town signing Kevin Berkoe has revealed that a glowing recommendation from a former club striker was a key factor in his deadline-day move to the League Two side.
The Ghanaian international defender, who joined Salop from Salford City for an undisclosed fee, explained that he sought advice from Dan Udoh, who had two prolific spells at the Meadow.
Udoh’s insights into the club and community convinced Berkoe that Shrewsbury was the right next step in his career.
In his first interview with the club's media team, the 24-year-old left-sided player also discussed his existing relationship with head coach Gavin Cowan, who previously managed him during a loan stint at AFC Telford United.
Berkoe highlighted this prior connection as another important element in his decision to join the club.
Berkoe, a product of Chelsea's academy, trained with his new teammates for the first time this morning. He outlined his primary aims for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign: to quickly integrate into the squad, help the team climb the table, and establish himself as a regular starter under Coach Cowan.
His arrival provides a timely boost for Shrewsbury Town, which is aiming to secure its League Two status in the final months of the season. Berkoe's versatility, capable of playing as a traditional left-back or in a more advanced wing-back role, is expected to offer valuable tactical flexibility to the squad.
