Ghana defender Nathaniel Adjei delivered a commanding performance to cap a memorable night for FC Lorient, earning the Man of the Match award as his side swept aside FC Paris with a convincing 2–0 victory in Wednesday night’s Coupe de France clash.

FC Lorient had just done the unthinkable by way of dumping the Coup de France king slayers, FC Paris, out of the competition and Adjei was right at the heart of it.

Paris FC stunned Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup with a historic smash-and-grab victory last month, sealing their first-ever win over their richer their bitterest rivals.

PSG lifted the trophy for a record 16th time last season but suffered a surprise defeat to their newly promoted city rivals, despite dominating the game.

There was palpable tension at the Stade du Moustoir ahead of kickoff, sparked by the visitors’ heroic display against their illustrious neighbours.

From the first whistle, FC Paris came with belief and bite, chasing another fairytale.

But Adjei had other ideas. He sensed the danger early, stepped in with perfectly timed tackles, and calmly marshaled the back line with authority.

Every clearance from the Ghanaian defender felt like a statement of intent. Every duel he won chipped away at FC Paris’ dream.

Midway through the second half, with Lorient clinging to a slender lead, Paris surged once more. A looping cross floated into the box, but Adjei rose above the chaos and powered it clear. The crowd erupted. That was the moment the resistance finally broke.

The 22-year-old was once again at the heart of the action, producing a sleek through pass from a tight angle while Lorient were under pressure, setting the tone for his side to double their lead.

When the final whistle sounded, Adjei clenched his fists and let out a long breath, a quiet smile breaking through the sweat. The giant-killers had been brought to heel.

Adjei’s impressive display did not go unnoticed, as he was named Man of the Match with a standout 7.9 rating.

The encounter against FC Paris marked the former Hammarby IF defender's seventh successive appearance for the Orange guys since recovering from a devastating injury that sidelined him for more than a year.

Lorient marched on. Paris bowed out.
