Ghanaian midfielder Benjamin Bernard Boateng scored a crucial second-half goal to earn Kahrbaa Ismailia a 1-1 draw away to Modern Sport FC in the Egyptian Premier League.
With his side under pressure, Boateng timed his run perfectly on 64 minutes, sweeping in Hassan El Shazly’s low cross to put the visitors 1-0 up at Cairo International Stadium.
Modern Sport responded and eventually levelled through Godwin Okwara in the 74th minute, as the forward pounced from close range to make it 1-1 and set up a tense finale. Deep into stoppage time, Kahrbaa almost left empty-handed when Ali Sulieman stepped up to take a penalty, but he fired wide, allowing the visitors to escape with a hard-fought point.
Boateng’s display underlined his growing influence in his debut Premier League campaign.
The result extends Kahrbaa Ismailia’s recent run of competitive performances and keeps them still fighting in the relegation zone. Next up, they host Tala’ea El Gaish on Monday, February 23, in another important fixture in their survival battle.
