â??Concrete steps takenâ?? â?? Okraku speaks on reforms after Nana Pooley tragedy

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has reaffirmed the association's commitment to delivering football in a ‘much cleaner environment’ following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley.

Speaking on the association’s media, Okraku reflected on the reforms sparked by the February 2025 incident, which saw the devoted fan fatally stabbed during a match against Nsoatreman FC.

"Remember after we lost our brother Pooley, we took very concrete steps to ensure that football is delivered in a much, much cleaner environment," Okraku stated.

He emphasized that the GFA’s judicial bodies have become increasingly active to ensure all stakeholders adhere to regulations, bringing those who violate match-day protocols to order.

These reforms include significant overhauls of the refereeing and match-day security frameworks to prevent future tragedies.

The GFA has collaborated with the Ghana Police Service to introduce a 33-point security action plan, which includes the creation of a specialized Sports Policing Unit.

Additionally, the association has implemented stricter match-day protocols and a "Catch Them Young" refereeing initiative aimed at improving officiating standards and reducing fan frustration.
