Eintracht Frankfurt will have to cope without Ansgar Knauff for several weeks, with the winger’s return expected to take longer than first hoped.
The club recently confirmed that the 24-year-old underwent abdominal surgery, but have not disclosed the exact nature of the problem or given a firm comeback date.
According to Bild, the speedy attacker will be sidelined “in the coming weeks”, and there is still no clarity on when he will be able to play again. The uncertainty is a major blow for Frankfurt, given how important Knauff has become to their attacking game this season.
The German-Ghanaian winger has played 20 Bundesliga matches in the current campaign, scoring four goals and providing one assist, underlining his growing influence in the final third.
While Knauff begins his rehab, head coach Albert Riera will have to adjust his plans and lean more on alternative options in wide and forward areas.
Frankfurt will hope that careful management now allows their explosive wide man to return fully fit for the run-in later this season.
