Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has underlined his admiration for players who are bold enough to question authority and visibly hurt by defeat, insisting such traits are essential for success at the highest level.
Addo made the remarks on Wednesday, February 19, when he addressed students from the University of Ghana’s Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Rugby Stadium.
The engagement formed part of a special colloquium on Individual Player Development, aimed at equipping students with practical insight into the demands of elite sport.
Reflecting on his managerial journey, Addo explained that working with strong-willed characters has sharpened his own growth on the touchline.
“I always say that, and I tell it to the other coaches, if the player can see the problems, with me as coach, problems, I know that they will pick the opponent’s problems.”
He added, “So I like these players⦠I like players who are going to challenge me, who are going to question me, or who are angry when they lose, because I know these are the players we need to win the game.”
Addo concluded by encouraging athletes to balance academic pursuits with their sporting ambitions, stressing education remains vital within the expanding sports industry.
